Feb 28, 10:30-11:30
Virtual Training
Donation-based (suggested $10-20 per person). Email aura@thebrannencenter.com to register.
An introduction to working with dissociation, this short training will provide an overview of assessing for dissociation. This will include an overview of how polyvagal theory can be used in the assessment phase to assess the overall nervous system health of your client and how frequently they might be experiencing dissociation. We will then discuss the different types of dissociative experiences and different assessments and tools a clinician can use to assess dissociation. This training is strongly encouraged as a prerequisite for part 2.

You are strongly encouraged to attend Part 1 of this training as well, as we will refer to concepts discussed in Part 1 throughout. This training will cover various strategies for working with dissociative clients. We will discuss how to use the information gathered in the assessment phase to inform strategies for working with dissociation. We will start with basic strategies to help clients manage dissociation and also briefly touch on trauma work with dissociative clients. Many strategies used for dissociation involve reference to parts work, so some familiarity with parts work language would be helpful. The book "No Bad Parts," by Dick Schwartz is a great primer. This training will be a broad overview, rather than an in-depth training, as working with dissociation requires specialized trainings that are much longer than the timeframe we have here, but discussion will be shaped by the interest of the group.
